Contamination
Policy on cross-contamination
The ACFCQ appeals to the goodwill and intelligence
of Quebec’s adult CF population by asking them to be concerned for
their own safety and that of others. The ACFCQ encourages them to
be responsible and develop hygienic habits that will decrease the
risks of contamination by Burkholderia cepacia, methicillin-resistant
Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus
(VRE), influenza and so on.
A reminder of measures adopted by the ACFCQ Board of Directors
1 - Always cough into the crook
of your elbow.
2 - Wash your hands regularly, or use a quick-drying
sanitizing gel, especially when handling objects used by persons
with cystic fibrosis.
3 - Avoid handshakes and hugs.
4 - Keep a reasonable distance (one metre) between
yourself and other people with cystic fibrosis.
5 - Wear a mask in the presence of persons with
cystic fibrosis if you know you are contaminated.
6 - Wear a mask if you want better protection.
7 - Avoid being in close quarters or poorly ventilated
areas with persons who have cystic fibrosis (e.g., car, bedroom).
8 - Avoid intimate contact with persons who have
cystic fibrosis.
9 - Never drink from a container (glass, bottle,
etc.) or eat with utensils used by someone with cystic fibrosis.
10 - Never use medical equipment (nebulizers, syringes,
tubing, etc.) that belongs to someone with cystic fibrosis.
